Did You Know Karan Johar Initially Wanted Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Rani Mukerji In Kalank?
While the current star cast of Kalank comprising of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur may seem to be like the perfect one, Karan Johar originally had other plans
After releasing a slew of character posters from Kalank, the makers unveiled the teaser this morning. It received huge praises from all quarters for presenting a larger-than-life love story. So it’s quite natural for the movie to be amongst the top trends today.
As Kalank continues grabbing attention for its amazing star cast and the teaser, an excerpt from Karan Johar’s autobiography An Unsuitable Boy has been going viral on social media. The particular excerpt mentions that KJo originally had plans of making Kalank with Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Rani Mukerji.
Here are his words, “Anyway, after Kaal I went on to develop Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. When my father was alive, I was writing a love story set in pre-Partition times. But the canvas was too large. It was supposed to have Shah Rukh, Ajay, Rani and Kajol. It was about two homes, and it had a Hindu-Muslim angle. It was a very strong subject, and would be called Kalank.”

That’s quite interesting! Earlier, KJo had revealed that Kalank was conceptualized a decade and a half ago. His father, the late Yash Johar was supposed to helm the project. In fact, the pre-production had started, but it got shelved. Then, Karan passed the baton to filmmaker Abhishek Varman. Kalank is slated to release on April 17, 2019.
